Yukshin Temple

Yukshin Temple was built to honor the six loyal servants—Park Paengnyeon, Seong Sammun, Lee Gae, Ryu Seongwon, Ha Wiji, and Yu Woongbu—who sacrificed their lives in an attempt to restore King Danjong to the throne. The temple's name, derived from the word "Sayukshin," commemorates these six martyrs.
Initially, only Chungjeonggong Chugeumheon was venerated by his descendants. On the day of his memorial service, Gyechanggong, the teacher's grandson, dreamt of six adults lingering outside the shrine gate. Awaking with a sense of urgency, he prepared offerings for the five others as well. Consequently, Nakbinsa Temple was established to collectively honor the "Sayukshin." However, Nakbinsa Temple, along with Nakbin Confucian Academy, was demolished in the third year of King Gojong's reign (1866) following Daewon-gun's decree abolishing Seowon (Confucian academies).
Nakbin Confucian Academy was later rebuilt in 1924. Between 1974 and 1975, as part of the Chunghyo Great Person Ruins Restoration Project, Yaksinsa Temple was constructed. This temple features five compartments on the facade, each with double eaves, built in the traditional multi-Po style.

Dodong Confucian Academy

First established in 1568 during the early Joseon-era, the academy had been built in dedication to Hanhwoldang Kim Goeng-pil in 1605 (38th Year of the reign of King Seonjo), and in 2007 has been designated as Historical Site no. 488 and promoted in July 6, 2019 as part of the Confucian Academies of Korea in among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The name ‘Dodong(道東)’ means “the Way of Neo-Confucianism comes from the East.) Confucian Academies had been a place where gentlemen came together and revered the names of the Greats, and in them found examples of moral excellence and propriety to follow.
Dodong Confucian Academy’s reputation earned it a place among the Five Great Confucian Academies, along with Wooksan, Dosan, Byeongsan, and Sosu Academies. It was one of the 48 sites that escaped destruction following Regent Prince Heungseon’s proclamation to abolish Confucian academies throughout the country.
Adjacent to Dodong Seowon, there is a history and culture experience exhibition hall, created by the three major cultures, along with the Dodong Confucian Culture Hall, which serves as a leisure and cultural space.

Daegyeon Temple

Biseulsan Daegyeon Temple is located 1,000 meters above sea level, making it one of the few temples at such a high altitude, along with Bongjeongam Hermitage in Seoraksan Mountain and Beopgye Temple in Jirisan Mountain. According to legend, the Tang Dynasty Emperor sought a place to establish a temple and, upon washing at a certain site, a beautiful landscape appeared before him. During the reign of the 9th-century Silla King Heondeok, a temple was constructed at this location and named “Daegyeonsa (大見寺),” meaning “temple site seen by a great nation.”
Monk Ilyeon, the author of Samguk Yusa (Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms), achieved first place in the state examination at 22 and was honored as a national priest. He served as the Head Priest of Daegyeon Temple for 22 years.
The temple was believed to suppress the Ki (energy) of Japan, leading to its forced closure twice. After about a century since, in March 2014, the temple was reconstructed through an agreement between Dalseong-gun and Donghwasa Temple to restore the national cultural heritage and uphold the national flag. Buddha's Jinsinsari is enshrined in Daeungjeon Hall.
