On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee of the 26th International Conference of the Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (ICTAM 2024), it is great honor and pleasure to welcome you the ICTAM 2024 in Daegu, Korea.
For the past 70 years, active research on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (TAM) has contributed greatly to the development of science and technology and resulted in the establishment of many global industries in Korea. There is still a strong need for TAM activities in a wide range of areas including energy, environment, production, social security, healthcare engineering, and the like. Moreover, TAM now plays an essential role in number of academic associations and research institutes. I believe that ICTAM 2024 will have a strong impact on the research and development of mechanics in Korea, as well as many other industries, and contribute greatly to the development of the IUTAM community. With the theme of “Human-centered Mechanics” for ICTAM 2024, we would like to have an opportunity to reflect on what we have achieved over the past century and to identify our goals for theoretical and applied mechanics in the next 100 years.
Daegu, the host city of ICTAM 2024, is well known as one of the most safe and hospitable cities in the world. Not only is the city rich in history and culture with many UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites, but also will prove to be an endearing, lively, and friendly locale for all of our delegates from around the world. Daegu is well-suited to host world-class conversations. Delegates can easily make their way to and from the venue, and their accommodations will be both comfortable and affordable, while providing a safe environment for all.
Until now, ICTAM has met only twice in Asia and has never been held in Korea. With the enthusiastic support of Daegu Metropolitan City, we pledge to provide a wide range of services to meet the technical and social needs of our participants to listen closely to the opinions of IUTAM members, and to strive to make the centennial anniversary of this prestigious event a successful and memorable one. We will do our utmost to serve the TAM community and strongly believe that ICTAM 2024 in Daegu, Korea will result in an extraordinary event marked by record-breaking attendance.
I sincerely hope to make the ICTAM 2024 a most valuable and productive conference for the participants. For this, I assure you that we will do our best for the successful ICTAM 2024.
I look forward to seeing you soon in Daegu in 2024.
Message from IUTAM President, Norman Fleck
I wish to welcome you to ICTAM 2024, and I trust that this centennial meeting of ICTAM will be a major success. The location of Daegu, South Korea, has a rich cultural history and is within easy reach of Incheon international airport and Seoul. Prof. Sanjay Mittal, the Secretary of the IUTAM Congress Committee, and I visited the Daegu conference site, local hotels, and the organizing team.
We congratulate Prof. Heuy Dong Kim, President of ICTAM 2024, Prof. Simon Song, Secretary of ICTAM 24, and the local organizing committee for putting together an impressive conference venue and local program. The series of ICTAM meetings, every four years over the past century, have had a major impact in bringing together the international mechanics community and supporting and stimulating existing and new research fields.
I fully expect that ICTAM 2024, as an in-person event, will continue this fine tradition.
